FIVE people were killed in separate incidents on Monday and Tuesday in Morvant, Tunapuna and Valencia.
One is a man known to police, Emmanuel Peters, 35, of Marie Avenue Tattoo Trace Valencia and Baptiste Trace Valencia. The others are Jabari Williams, Jase Randy Phillip, 45, a“PH” taxi-driver Shameel Primus, 27 and Abigail Lewis, 33.
The four men were shot and the woman was chopped to death.
The first shooting took place at 6 pm in Morvant on Monday.
Residents reported that they heard loud explosions and when officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force arrived at the scene, they found Williams and two other men with gunshot wounds. The men were taken to hospital but Williams succumbed to his injuries.
Later on at 1 am, a short distance away, the bodies of Primus and Lewis were found at their Celestine Trace home. Residents reported to police that they heard gunshots but because of the curfew restrictions did not go out to do their own investigations. They called the police who found Lewis on a bed with multiple chop wounds and Primus on the floor next to the bed.
Also on Monday night, at around 9.45 pm, four men armed with high-powered rifles entered from John’s Hill unto Upper Trace, Maingot Road firing shots in the direction of Phillip and another man identified as 20-year-old Shazim Hadibodean and a woman.
Police said they found 147 spent 5.56 and 9mm bullet casings at the scene and believed the target was not Phillip but Hadibodean who was shot in his right shoulder. The woman received a shot to her hand.
And police reported that around 9 am on Tuesday, acting Cpl Hosein, PC Johnson and WPC Gonzales were on mobile patrol in the Valencia district proceeding in an easterly direction along the Eastern Main Road, when on reaching Cost Cutters supermarket opposite Bertrand Street, Valencia, they were alerted by a passer-by that someone was shot in Bertrand Street.
They proceeded to make checks and about 200 feet into the street came across an unresponsive male of African descent, medium built, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, long rasta hairstyle, brown complexion clad in a white Jersey and dark coloured 3/4 pants in the roadway in front of David’s Auto Garage. He was later identified as Peters.
He appeared to have a wound to the back of his head and appeared to have signs of life.
He was conveyed to the Sangre Grande Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
No suspects have been found.
