SOME 40 persons are expected to be repatriated from disaster struck St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) on Tuesday.
Principal Medical Officer, Institutions, Dr Maryam Abdool Richards at the Ministry of Health’s virtual media conference on Monday said all measures were in place to receive them.
She said they were expected to return on the vessel, the Galleons Passage in the wake of the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano.
Abdool-Richards added that there was another planned repatriation exercise with the Ministry of National Security from Barbados but that is yet to be confirmed given the volcanic activity in the SVG.
“We are monitoring the situation with the volcanic ash from Mt. Soufriere in St. Vincent and the Grenadines prior to confirming this activity. However, all arrangements are in place once the activity is confirmed even at a later date.”
On Wednesday, 140 persons are expected to return from Canada and on April 21 another 140 from Miami, Florida, Abdool Richards said.
She added that within the last two to three months, the Ministry of National Security has been granting an increase in approvals for repatriated citizens.
