FOUR interested parties submit proposals for the sale of the defunct Pointe-a-Pierre refinery by Wednesday.
This was revealed by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley on Monday in Parliament.
During the Prime Minister’s Questions segment, Dr Rowley was asked to provide a status update on the proposed sale of the refinery by Member of Parliament for Naparima Rodney Charles.
Dr Rowley said, “There is an ongoing request for proposals process for the refinery and it has been narrowed down to four interested parties.
“These parties have had access to the data room information and some have already visited the refinery. The last four parties were due to place their proposals by December 15, 2021.”
He said, “Following these submissions, there will be an evaluation process and we are on target for those submissions to be in, in a couple of days’time and we anticipate thereafter that an evaluation would be done.”
When asked to identify the parties, Dr Rowley said he did not have that information but it can be requested from the appropriate minister.
Charles also asked, “Is the government concerned with the deterioration of equipment at the plant given that the refinery has been closed for such a lengthy period?”
Dr Rowley’s response was that the equipment will be in the best condition available.
“It was precisely because of that, why we moved with the alacrity to inform the House that four interested parties were looking at the possible future of this equipment,” he said.
