38 Floods in 2 Days

OVER a period of two days, 38 floods were reported throughout Trinidad with the most being in the Chaguanas district.
The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government issued its incident report for May 18 and May 19 on Tuesday.
The Chaguanas Borough Corporation (CBC) reported 12 floods while both the Diego Martin Borough Corporation (DMBC) and the Couva/Tabaquite/ Talparo Regional Corporation (CTTRC) reported eight.

Six were reported from the San Juan Laventille Regional Corporation (SJLRC), two from the Princes Town Regional Corporation (PTRC) and one from both the Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation (MRCRC) and the Siparia Borough Corporation.
There were 24 reports of fallen trees with 10 coming from the DMBC, four from three corporations – CTTRC, MRCRC and Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation (TPRC).
Three corporations reported a total of 15 landslides, with eight being reported in the SJLRC, six in the DMBC and one from TPRC.

There were also 12 reports of high winds and roof damage with the most again coming from the DMBC which reported six.
There were also three affected structures reported.
In relief items given out, the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC) distributed the most sandbags -500, followed by the SJLRC with 172 and the DMBC-123.
The DMBC used  the most the most tarpaulins -16.

Other items distributed were two sheets sets, 10 polythene sheets for the SJLRC  and seven mattresses.
If persons continue to be affected, they are advised to contact their nearest Disaster Management Unit.
