$365K for Tunapuna Flood Victims

MORE than 50 families have received $365,000 in grants from the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS)

The presentation took place  on Monday at the St Augustine South Community Centre saw 53 recipients representing 168 households.

According to a press release from the MPSDFS, families received $350,500 in household item grants, $14,000 in clothing grants, and $1,000 in school supplies support.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services Vandana Mohit said, “We are committed to strengthening every aspect of disaster response and social support so that families receive assistance faster and with greater ease.”

She said the Ministry will continue to provide financial support across Tunapuna/Piarco to all verified households.

Mohit said, “We will continue to evaluate, listen and improve because citizens deserve nothing less.”

Also speaking at the ceremony was Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Khadijah Ameen.

Commending the swift delivery of assistance, Ameen said that feedback from recipients is vital to “improve systems, address gaps, and shape more effective community support,” according to the release.

The distribution follows a previous relief ceremony held on November 8, where $310,000 in Disaster Relief Grants was provided to flood-affected families in Central Trinidad.
