POLICE have seized marijuana with a street value of close to $32 million in the forest in Guapo.
During the operation, officers seized 278 packets of high-grade hydro Colombian Creepy Marijuana, weighing a total of 291 kilogrammes and a street value of $31,936,377.
A release by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Friday stated that the seizure of this high-grade marijuana was a significant victory against drug trafficking networks.
This follows the arrested of a key suspect earlier this week when police found $4.5 m worth of cocaine infused in hair products.
Commissioner of Police Erla Harewood-Christopher said, “This operation, while executed within hours, is the culmination of countless hours of intelligence gathering and meticulous surveillance.”
She said, “Our officers have dealt a substantial blow to this drug trafficking network, and we remain relentless in our pursuit of these criminals.”
A series of coordinated intelligence operations resulted in the arrest of several associates of a drug trafficking network based in South Trinidad and the seizure of large amounts of narcotics which consisted of high-grade marijuana and cocaine, the release stated.
It stated that intelligence revealed plans by the drug network to relocate narcotics from a stash in Guapo. Police pinpointed the stash in a secluded, forested beach type area along Vance River Road, Guapo and officers maintained close observation and identified key network associates as they attempted to move the narcotics.
With operational support from Southern Division Police, officers swiftly converged on the location and secured on Thursday night.
The team apprehended two primary associates and confiscated the narcotics. The suspects, along with the seized drugs, were transported to Marabella Police Station.
