Joshua “D Pan Man” Regrello made history by setting a new world record for the longest steelpan marathon, clocking in 31 hours of continuous playing.
This achievement has earned him a coveted spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The marathon event took place at Wack radio station on Coffee Street, San Fernando, where Regrello began his performance at 6.28 am on December 27. He was allowed brief breaks, and he surpassed his initial goal of 30 hours.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley extended his congratulations to Regrello via social media, praising his dedication and the inspiration he has provided to both the nation and the global community. “Your dedication, perseverance, and passion for our national instrument have been and continue to be truly inspiring,” Dr Rowley said, “You have filled a nation with pride.”
This record-setting performance adds to Regrello’s resume, which includes being the first pannist to perform on the Great Wall of China earlier this year. This event was part of the celebrations marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Trinidad and Tobago.
