3 Water Trucks, Supplies Sent to St Vincent

THREE water trucks are part of the supplies sent to St Vincent and the Grenadines on Tuesday morning. The water trucks will transport potable water in the volcano-hit country.

They were part of the supplies by Trinidad and Tobago.

The supplies also include water, food essentials, toiletries, hygiene materials, cleaning supplies, simple medical supplies, water tanks, and buckets.

Fifty members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) departed T&T on Tuesday morning to provide humanitarian and relief assistance following the eruption of the La Soufrière volcano.

Officials comprising personnel from engineers, infantry/provost, medical and logistics left on board the Galleons Passage at approximately 7am. They will be stationed in St Vincent and the Grenadines for two weeks, in the first instance, a release from the Ministry of National Security.

Representatives from the Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Society; the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA); and members of the media also departed.

Addressing the troops before their departure at the Inter-Island Ferry Terminal in Port-of-Spain, Minister of National Security Stuart Young thanked them for responding to the call to provide assistance to St Vincent.

Also present were acting Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier General Dexter Francis; and the commanding officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment, Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard, Trinidad and Tobago Air Guard and Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force Reserves.

Relief items collected by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) were also being transported to St Vincent and the Grenadines on the Galleons Passage.

Trinidad and Tobago nationals will be repatriated from St. Vincent and the Grenadines via the Galleons Passage on Wednesday. All nationals returning will be quarantined and treated in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 protocols.

The Government of Trinidad and Tobago remains in contact with the authorities in St Vincent and the Grenadines and will continue to monitor their situation.
