THREE men were arrested after a robbery in Carenage on Monday.
A release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated that between 5.30 pm and 7 pm on Monday, officers from the Carenage Charge Room, led by Sgt Carmona, mounted a roadblock exercise in response to a report of a robbery on Constabulary Street, Carenage.
The suspects reportedly had fled the scene in the victim’s white Mitsubishi L300 panel van and silver Nissan B14 motor car.
Despite several attempts to bring the vehicles to a stop, both managed to evade capture. A broadcast was then sent to all patrols in the area via the Western Division Operation Centre to coordinate the interception of the vehicles.
Shortly after, while on mobile patrol, PC Weekes and PC Jobity spotted the white panel van heading east in the vicinity of Goodwood Park, Glencoe, and gave chase.
They immediately radioed for assistance from additional units in the area. Officers from the Western Division Task Force and the Western Division Criminal Investigations Department responded, leading to the eventual interception of the white van at the compound of Diego Martin Borough Corporation and the arrest of three 18-year-old suspects from the Laventille area.
The officers searched the vehicle and discovered a firearm, along with ammunition, and the valuables belonging to the victim. The items and vehicle were seized and transported to the Carenage Police Station.
Shortly thereafter, Cpl Antoine, PC Weekes, and PC Jobity received further information that a silver Nissan B14, bearing the same plates as the suspicious vehicle, had been involved in a road traffic accident and had been abandoned at the side of the road in the vicinity of Dean’s Bay.
Upon arriving, the officers conducted a search of the vehicle and found a homemade firearm. The item and vehicle were seized and conveyed to the Carenage Police Station.
