ROLLOUT of second doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines begins on June 6.
This was revealed by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh at the virtual presser of his ministry on Monday.
He said that the first batch of the 33,600 COVAX vaccines were used to give first jabs starting on April 6.
Deyalsingh said based on World Health Organization guidelines the second shot should be given within eight to 12 weeks after the first dose.
He said the second batch of the 33,600 vaccines from COVAX that arrived on May 10 will expire on August 31 and therefore will be sufficient for second doses.
He noted that 40,000 AstraZeneca vaccines received as a gift from India expires on July 18 and these will be used first when the rollout of second doses begin.
