RESIDENTS in several parts of Tacarigua, Arouca and central Trinidad experienced the rare occurrence of hail.
One resident of Tacarigua, who wished to remain anonymous said, “It started with a downpour of rain around 1.30pm and occurred within some parts of Central and North of the country.”
He added, “This was the first time, he experienced it in the country. At the moment, it’s still overcast and raining lightly here but it’s probably ongoing where the rain was falling heavier.”
There were also several videos on social media as persons shared the occurrence.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), said, “Hail was a precipitation of particles of ice (hailstones) which can either be transparent or partly or completely opaque.
It stated, “Usually, spheroidal, conical or irregular in form, and generally five to 50 mm in diameter. The particles may fall from a cloud either separately or agglomerated in irregular lumps.”
