OUT of the 237 Covid-19 patients in hospitals within the parallel healthcare system, 215 are critically and severally ill.
Principal Medical Officer of Institutions Dr Maryam Abdool-Richards on Wednesday said the 237 patients represented the current hospital occupancy of 43 %, with 22 patients in the step-down facilities at the Point Fortin Area Hospital.
Speaking at the Ministry of Health virtual conference on Wednesday, Abdool-Richards, also said, “As of this morning, there are 27 patients across ten Accident and Emergency departments in the traditional healthcare system.”
She added that the ambulance usage stood at 18% and the rolling seven-day average in terms of ambulances used for Covid-19 transport was 17% which remained constant for the past two weeks.
Abdool-Richards said there were nine critically ill patients in the parallel healthcare system in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
However, she said that 80% of patients between July 22, 2021, and August 17, 2022, admitted to the hospitals were severely/critically ill patients and not fully vaccinated.
Abdool-Richards also wished the public on behalf of the health team, a happy and safe 60th Independence.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh said sample 13 has been sent for testing for Monkeypox.
