WITH the majority of public health regulations lifted on Sunday, the public is being reminded that the mask mandate remains for medical facilities.
The new regulations were issued on July 16 by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh and took effect on July 17.
Persons can be charged for not wearing a mask in a public or private hospital a fixed penalty fine of $2,000. They can also be charged $2,000 for failing to wear a mask in a public or private medical clinic.
For also failing to ensure that a child wears a mask in a public or private hospital, persons could be charged $1,000.
The same sum applies for failing to ensure that a child wears a mask in a public or private medical clinic.
However, the fixed penalty notice can be appealed for reasons outlined in the regulations.
Ministry officials, however, still continue to advise the public to wear masks as a personal responsibility even though by law it is no longer required.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram last week went into further details as to how some-one should assess whether to wear a mask or not.
