2 Venezuelan Women Rescued from Human Trafficking

POLICE rescue two women who were kidnapped, abused and assaulted at a house in Cunupia on Friday.

The women, ages 24 and 28, said they were falsely imprisoned for the past three days.

They were found after police executed a search warrant under the Trafficking of Persons Act, at an apartment located at the Southern Main Road, Cunupia.

Four persons, two of them Venezuelans, were arrested.

Around 4pm on Friday, the Multi Option Police Section (MOPS) received a request for assistance from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) relative to a report of the trafficking in persons.

During the hours of 6.30 pm and 11.30 pm on Friday, members of the Special Investigations Task Force of the SIU and officers of MOPS, executed the warrant.

Both women reported to the police that they were kidnapped, robbed, assaulted and falsely imprisoned for the past three days.

Four suspects were also arrested and are in police custody. Enquiries are continuing by officers of the SIU.

The suspects, two of whom are from Trinidad, are aged 39, 31, 21 and 19, police said.
