2 To be Charged for ‘Gold Chain’ Murder

ONE of the two men charged for the killing of Jimmy Thomas who was killed for his gold chain is the husband of a daily newspaper reporter.

Reports are that the 29-year-old surrendered to police last week.

The other suspect, a 19-year-old was arrested at his home in Sangre Grande.

The two men were charged on Sunday following instructions received from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Thomas was shot dead while fighting for her gold chain outside a bar in Sangre Grande on May 25.

 The two suspects are expected to appear in court on Monday.

In separate incidents, police also arrested and charged two men in connection with two attempted murders and firearm-related offences.

A Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) press release on Monday stated that Josiah Johnson of D’Abadie, was charged on Friday.

He was charged in connection with the attempted murder of a man in D’Abadie which occurred on May 16. He was also charged with possession of firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of firearm to endanger life and possession of ammunition to endanger life.

One other person, Nebare Lee had been previously charged in connection with that matter. He was arrested on May 17.

In the second incident, Leon Sylvester, of D’Abadie, was charged in connection with an attempted murder incident which occurred on March 23. He was also charged with firearm-related offences. Both Johnson and Sylvester are expected to appear before an Arima Magistrate on Tuesday to answer to the charges.
