2 Charged for Curfew Breach, Drugs

TWO men were charged with possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, and the breach of curfew regulations after police conducted a curfew enforcement exercise in Cocorite on Monday.

Police reported that during a patrol on Tuesday   at Powder Magazine, Phase 2, officers observed the  two men standing next to a white Nissan Tiida vehicle with the doors opened.

The two men ran off when they saw the police officers. Police conducted a search of the compound and a short while later the officers found the two men hiding beneath a staircase.

Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and allegedly found 257 grammes of marijuana, wrapped in plastic wrapping and nine grammes of cocaine, contained in plastic packets.

Brandon Shockness,  of Diego Martin, and Isaiah  Pritchard  of Powder Magazine, Phase 2 and also of Calvary Hill, Arima, were charged.

The exercise was supervised by Snr Supt Kelvern Thompson, coordinated by Supt Henry and ASP Baird, conducted by Insp Reyes and acting Sgt Carmona and officers of the Western Division Task Force comprising of PC Gilkes, PC Rogers and PC Peltier.

And also on Monday, a 25-year-old man, of Golconda Road, San Fernando, pleaded guilty for breaching the curfew, driving under the influence, and dangerous driving. Antonio  Amichan,  pleaded guilty at the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court  and was fined $2,000 for the offence of driving under the influence (DUI).

He was fined $2,000 or four months hard labour for breach of curfew, and for the offence of dangerous driving, he was fined $2,000 or four months’ hard labour. Amichan has also been disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Police reported that around 10pm on Sunday, Police Constables, Mohammed and Ramroop, were on mobile patrol along the SS Erin Road, Debe, when they saw a motor vehicle speeding and swerving. The vehicle was stopped and a breath analyser test was conducted on the driver. The result of the test indicated an alcohol level exceeding the prescribed limit. He was arrested and later charged.
