TWO men from Upper 7th Avenue, Malick, were arrested following an armed robbery aboard a maxi taxi along the Priority Bus Route (PBR).
The incident occurred around 10.15 pm on Monday, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated in a media release on Tuesday.
The TTPS stated that a 41-year-old driver of Arouca was driving east near San Juan when two male passengers boarded the vehicle. Upon reaching the St Augustine Tunnel, the men announced a robbery.
One of them was armed with a firearm and pointed it at the driver and passengers, both suspects demanded cash and valuables.
The victims handed over their possessions and the suspects then escaped on foot through the tunnel.
The release stated that while en route to make a report at the St Joseph Police Station, the victims saw the suspects boarding another maxi taxi and alerted officers.
Police intercepted the vehicle near Mt Lambert along the PBR. Officers of the St Joseph Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Barataria Police Station and other units responded and detained both suspects.
A Smith & Wesson firearm loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition was recovered along with a large sum of cash and jewellery believed to be stolen.
The suspects were taken to the St Joseph Police Station.
Investigations are continuing under the supervision of Police Constable Nicholls.
