A 25-year-old Penal man is facing charges for 17 offences arising out of his alleged participation in a July robbery.

The accused was arrested on August 31, after allegedly being one of six participants in a violent multi-home invasion on July 28, stated a press release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Tuesday.

According to police reports, six assailants, five of whom were armed, launched an attack on a family compound in Barrackpore. The victims, two brothers and families, who live in separate houses, reported they were beaten with guns, their families assaulted, their homes ransacked, and their mobile phones stolen.

Reports also indicated the suspects fled the scene in one of the victim’s black Nissan Pulsar.

The TTPS said investigations were carried out by acting Cpl Lee Lum. Under the recommendation of Inspector Sookdeo, ASP Morales instructed the suspect to be charged with a total of 17 offences.

The offences included three counts of Burglary, three counts of Robbery with Violence, two counts of Larceny Motor Vehicle and Five counts of False Imprisonment.

The suspect, the TTPS stated, was expected to appear before a San Fernando High Court Master on Tuesday afternoon.
