SINCE the start of the Covid-19 pandemic last year, 16 people have died at home due to the coronavirus.
This was revealed by Epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds at the virtual media conference of the Ministry of Health on Wednesday.
He said out of the 148 deaths as of Tuesday (May 18) due to Covid-19, seven of those have died at home during this month alone. That seven is included in the overall 16 deaths.
Dr Hinds said, “What we have on record is that there would have been throughout the entire pandemic for us 16 people recorded as having died at home.”
He said that is about 5% of the total deaths with seven deaths thus far in the month of May.
Dr Hinds said the deaths is May stayed within 4% to 5% of fatalities for the month and thus there was not an increase in the number of the people who were dying at home.
He said circumstances differ and people could deteriorate quickly before they call for help and was one of the reasons for such fatalities.
Dr Hinds therefore advised Covid-19 patients who were at home and begin to get increasing distress especially with breathing to call the ambulance and get help in the health system.
