POLICE have arrested 16 people were arrested for various offences including murder an exercise in the Northern Division on Thursday morning.
According to a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), three firearms and a quantity of ammunition were seized after the execution of several search warrants.
The exercise resulted in the seizure of the following:
- One AR rifle with one magazine containing 53 rounds of 5.56 ammunition;
- One Taurus Pistol with six (6) rounds of .45 ammunition and six (6) rounds of 9mm ammunition; and
- One Glock 19 pistol with one (1) drop barrel magazine and one (1) selector together with 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
- A quantity of cocaine and cannabis
People were arrested for various offences including murder, possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, gang-related enquiries and an outstanding warrant for rape.
The exercise was led by Snr Supt Sheldon David, coordinated by ASP Gyan and Insp Pitt. It was spearheaded by Sgt La Pierre, acting Cpl Forde, acting Cpl Superville, PCs John, Ramdass, Gaffoor, Cordrington, and Persad and included other members of the Northern Division Task Force (NDTF) West, personnel from the St Joseph Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headed by Insp Hernandez and Sgt Thomas, as well as PC Persad from the Tunapuna Process Section and Canine Branch.
