CLOSE to 14,000 Venezuelans have registered to stay and work in Trinidad and Tobago as of last Friday.

A release from the National Security Ministry stated that about 13,800 Venezuelans have registered.

Minister of National Security Stuart Young has agreed to extend the re-registration process to April 9 allowing six additional working days for eligible persons to drop off their completed forms seeking re-registration.

Young has said that 16, 523 Venezuelan migrants were registered in the first exercise in 2019. The registration was initially scheduled to last one year but was extended by the Cabinet.

The release stated that while job letters and letters from landlords were desirable, they were not mandatory.

Venezuelan nationals who fail to re-register under the existing process and exercise will be subject to deportation (as are all illegal immigrants in T&T), the release stated.

The release stated, “Accordingly, persons who are eligible to re-register, who have not already done so, should ensure that they re-register during this final extension period.”
