A tornado that swept through the Westmoorings North area on Tuesday damaged a dozen homes but caused no injuries, according to the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government (RDLG).
The ministry stated that damage was concentrated within the Diego Martin Borough Corporation, with reports from Cherry Crescent, St Anthony’s Drive, and Western Circle.

Several roofs were blown off entirely while others were partially damaged. Tarpaulins were distributed to affected households as immediate relief.
Assessments by the Diego Martin Borough Corporation’s Disaster Management Unit (DMU), supported by counterparts from the San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation and the Port of Spain City Corporation, recorded 12 damaged roofs, two incidents of flooding, and one fallen tree.

Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Khadijah Ameen visited the area on Tuesday to assess the damage. She was joined by Senator the Honourable Phillip Edward Alexander, Minister in the Ministry of Housing, senior RDLG officials, and response agencies including the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, Fire Service, Police Service, the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC), and local councillors.
The RDLG noted it oversees the national Local Government system and the DMUs within each corporation, which are responsible for assessments, data collection, debris removal with heavy equipment, and coordination with agencies such as T&TEC and WASA to restore services and infrastructure.
The ministry said it continues to coordinate with all relevant agencies to ensure safety, temporary relief, and the restoration of essential services for affected residents. Persons impacted are asked to contact their respective Disaster Management Units for assistance.
