The release stated that 11 out of 14 nationals were sent back by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The deportees arrived on Friday on a chartered flight just before 3 am at the Piarco International Airport.
The ministry stated that government received advance notice of the deportation from ICE on March 21, through the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.
An International Commercial Air Transport permit was applied for on March 24 and was granted by the Civil Aviation Authority on March 25 to facilitate the return of the deportees.
The ministry stated, “Upon arrival, the eleven individuals, ten males and one female, were met by our local immigration authorities and were processed in accordance with established protocols. However, the lone female was detained by law enforcement due to two local outstanding warrants.”
The ministry added, “The relevant law enforcement authorities in Trinidad and Tobago are working closely with their US counterparts regarding these repatriated nationals. All necessary measures have been implemented to monitor these individuals as they reintegrate into society.”
Government also reaffirmed its commitment to upholding national security and public safety.
