FOR duties performed during the Covid-19 pandemic, healthcare workers will be allocated an additional $10 million.
The announcement was made by Finance Minister Colm Imbert as he read the Budget in Parliament on Monday.
This means that the total monies earmarked for those employees were now $210 million dollars.
Imbert said the allocation was made based on the instructions of Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley as a special payment to be distributed to health workers in Trinidad and Tobago.
“This will involve ex gratia payments to over 20,000 health workers,” Imbert said.
Earlier this month, at the Spotlight on the Economy event, he had said that healthcare workers would get $200 million dollars.
That’s great but what about public servants, teachers , police officers and other members of the protective services.
Don’t they deserve to get a break , reward . Four percent is not enough because our current cost of living is continuously on the rise.
