THERE are 16 new cases of the Covid-19 Delta variant in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Ministry of Health reported on Friday that the total number of Delta cases was now 102.
Out of 16 cases, 15 cases had no travel history, eight had prior contact with other positive cases, seven are fully vaccinated and eight cases are unvaccinated. One case is pending epidemiological investigation.
The presence of the Delta variant was confirmed via gene sequencing at the laboratory of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies.
All patients have been placed in isolation until the enhanced discharged criteria for persons with Covid-19 Variants of Concern is achieved.
Contact tracing, testing and quarantining of contacts have also been initiated.
