MORE than 10,000 residents in the Penal area have been affected by heavy rain on Tuesday morning.
This was confirmed by Gowtam Maharaj, Chairman of the Penal Debe Regional Corporation.
As of 8.30 pm on Tuesday, Maharaj reported that Penal Rock Road was passable up to Seemungal Trace. Maharaj, who has been on the field since morning, noted that only ten-ton trucks could navigate certain areas due to high water levels.
All rivers in the area have overflowed, and many residents have chosen to stay in their homes rather than evacuate. The corporation has been using ten-ton trucks to transport people safely to their homes.
Some children from Rock Road Presbyterian and Catholic schools, as well as Penal Convent, were transported home via these trucks. Maharaj also mentioned that Clarke Road was passable by Tuesday evening.
Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service had issued a Localised Flood Alert, Yellow Level, for Trinidad that ended at 4 pm on Tuesday.
The Met Office said periods there was rain and isolated heavy showers/thunderstorms due to the Inter-Tropical Conversion Zone (ITCZ).
Flooding was reported in Penal, Siparia, Penal, Chaguanas and Arima.

Great service by Chairman Gowtam Maharaj. If it was former Dr. Allan Sammy still there, the people would have been neglected because his mantra he keeps singing is that the corporation has no money to buy diesel for its vehicles. Thank you Mr. Maharaj
