TEN firearms including an AR-15 rifle have been seized by police from one person in the past 72 hours in the Northern Division.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) reported that on Thursday, officers acting on intelligence, intercepted a Toyota Fielder wagon near the Cumuto traffic lights.
Officers of the Arima Intel/Ops Team arrested the lone occupant, after discovering an AR-15 rifle, a revolver, two shotguns, and 20 rounds of .38 special ammunition in the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s Chaguanas residence under State of Emergency (SoE) Regulations uncovered six revolvers, 31 rounds of 9-mm ammunition, 41 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, 46 rounds of .380 ammunition and four rounds of .45 ammunition.
Several other suspects were arrested for possession of narcotics and ammunition, the TTPS stated via media release on Friday.
The TTPS stated, “Officers of the Northern Division North have intensified their crime-fighting efforts, executing a series of intelligence-led operations over the past 72 hours. These strategic initiatives which targeted known offenders, led to the seizure of multiple firearms, ammunition, narcotics, as well as the arrest of 18 suspects.”
