1 Dead, Others Wounded in POS Shootings

ONE man is dead and two injured following separate shooting incidents on Monday.

Police reported that around 8.15pm, police officers responded to a report of a shooting along Laventille Road.

On arrival at the location, they saw a white Toyota Aqua with no occupants parked along the roadway in the vicinity of Leau Place with several bullet holes and spent casings nearby.

A man identified as Ricardo Kelly also called Keltec, of Belle Eau Road, Belmont, was observed lying on the roadway along Quarry Street, Laventille suffering from gunshot wounds about the body.

The 24-year-old was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A man who arrived on the scene shortly, reported that he was seated in the front passenger seat together with Kelly who was in the driver seat when they heard several loud explosions and something hitting the vehicle.

The 20-year-old man from St Barb’s in Laventille said he ran east along Laventille Road and hid in some bushes while Kelly fled north into Quarry Street.

Sgt Seecharan of the Region 1 Homicide Bureau of Investigations visited the scene and is continuing enquiries.

Teenager shot in leg

Around 4.23pm, police officers responded to a report of shooting along Oxford Street, Port-of-Spain. On arrival, they met and interviewed Jaheem Smith, 17, of Bath Street, who had a gunshot wound to his left leg.

He reported that around 4.20pm he was standing along the roadway in front of his friend’s home at Oxford Street, when he heard several loud explosions and ran inside.

He then felt a burning sensation to his left leg and was then taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital by the officers where he was treated for his wound and later warded in stable condition.

And   around 5.15pm while at the same hospital, police officers met David Gurrera, 50, also of Oxford Street. He told police that around 4.20pm he was standing along the street when he heard several loud explosions and felt a burning sensation to his back.

He was taken to the hospital by family members where he was treated for his wound and warded in stable condition.
