FORMER People’s Partnership (PP) minister Vasant Bharath has accepted an invitation from Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to be a member of the recovery committee to chart a course for Trinidad and Tobago after the Covid-19 measures are lifted.

He is the second former PP minister to be part of the committee following Winston Dookeran who was also a former Central Bank governor and was part of the original 22-members.

In a Facebook post, Bharath said:

I have always advocated that the National interest must take precedence over personal ambition and political preference. As as result, I have never looked at matters of national importance through either a red or yellow lens.

The current crisis forces us, as never before, to take off the political gloves and work together for the benefit of ALL of our people.

As a country having, thus far, negotiated our way through the medical emergency, we must now lift the pause button on our activities that we collectively pressed in the interest of saving lives.

As such, today I accepted the call from the Prime Minister to serve on the country’s Recovery Committee.

Our country needs all hands on deck to develop and implement the necessary strategies to exit the lockdown with the least number of economic casualties and solid plans for keeping and creating new jobs.

I am humbled that my pair of hands were considered worthy.
