THE United States Government is being sued by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) over an immigration rule they say will force international students out of the country.

The BBC reported that under the rule, introduced by the Trump administration, foreign students would be banned from staying in the country if their colleagues don’t hold in-person classes this autumn.

It stated that much university teaching is shifting online during the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the report, Harvard and MIT, two of the most prestigious universities in the world, have asked a federal court to block the rule.

Harvard President Lawrence Bacow reportedly sent an email to the Harvard community in which he said, “We will pursue this case vigorously so that our international students – and international students at institutions across the country – can continue their studies without the threat of deportation.”
