Support boost for African freight forwarders

– One of Africa’s largest and most successful supply chain membership organizations will support the further development of the freight forwarding industry throughout the nation with its backing of the 2011 African Logistics Summit from March 10-12 at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents, with over 5000 members, has agreed to support the Summit that fosters the professional development of attendees while also offering a forum to explore business partnerships between freight forwarders, transporters, government organizations, investors and clients in the mining and energy sectors.

The Association’s endorsement also includes supporting a short course training program being held in Africa for the first time and specifically designed for freight forwarders and project cargo specialists.

The Certificate of Achievement in Freight Forwarding Management has won high praise around the world and is delivered by 3PL network the Project Professionals Group that has over 140 member offices in 93 countries.

The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents, under the leadership of Prince Olaiwola Shittu, is committed to empowering its members through education and professional development that delivers international best practice.

The Association’s National Secretary, Chief Emmanuel O. Opara, said freight forwarders and clearing agents played a vital part of the supply chain in Africa.

“Exporting and importing is the lifeblood of business in Africa across international and domestic markets and the delivery of quality services will be enhanced by the education and training that will be offered as part of the African Logistics Summit,” Chief Opara said.

“This training and knowledge is very timely as the world recovers from the Global Financial Crisis and our members will have a unique opportunity to enhance their business skills.”

“Nigeria is a growing economy that requires the development of supporting infrastructure and is dependent on the successful management of imports and transportation of general and multi-dimensional cargos which can be very challenging.”

Chief Opara said he would encourage members to take up a special sponsorship offer for the Summit training course and the opportunity to be recognized as a leading freight forwarder equal to counterparts anywhere in the world.

The training and education course is also supported by the African Cargo and Logistics Alliance.

ACLA president, Mr Ukata Christian, said the support of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents was wonderful news and very beneficial to their members who would acquire much-needed industry training.
